I’ve wanted to shed 10 pounds for the past few months, so I’ve finally made a decision to stop jackin’ my jaws and do something.
Not too long ago, I was Foxy Roxy. Well, I’m still Foxy Roxy, but I got about 5 pounds away from my goal weight, but then gosh darnit, I gained 5.
Booooo!
Actually I would like to lose 15, but 15 hasn’t been viewed as a favorable amount among family members and friends.
Anywho, I’ve made a decision to make a workout commitment and join a local boot camp.
I had success with another boot camp a few years back so I’m very excited.
But because I’ve done this crazy-sweat-like-a-maniac workout stuff before, I know it will wreak havoc on a girl’s hair. Sooooooo, as soon as I made up my mind to get the poundage off, I started thinking about my hair.
I can wear it swirly curly because I do not have a relaxer or I can pull it back into a ponytail.
Yikes! I can see the Bad Hair Days now.
But then I started thinking: Bad Hair Days or unhealthy? Bad Hair Days or Pillsbury Dough Girl?
Forget about my hair, I’m gonna figure out a way to take this in stride. I want to be Sleek and Svelte for the summertime and ummm, wintertime too.
Interestingly, while going through my divorce, I was jogging every morning instead of a couple times a week.
My life was getting ready to CHANGE and I can’t say that I was fearless. Oh, I was scurrrred, but I was praying and praying and praying and jogging.
I also was hoping that stress would give me a few complimentary pounds, but I got a letter in the mail from the Stress Department that read, “Oh, you gonna have to work out to lose weight. P.S. We are not even going to take your appetite.”
I tore the letter up into little pieces and put on my tennis shoes. Dag!
But then recently, I heard a woman say something like women work out to look good for men. Well, yea and no. I wanna work out so that my jeans look supa dupa good on me.
I wanna work out so that I feel good. I wanna work out so that I look good and feel good.
But I’m gonna go ahead and submit my receipt for refund to the Women Who Work Out To Look Good For Men Department and see if I can get my money back.
I feel that working out should be for you. not for anyone else. It should, first of all, be driven by you healthy and fitness ambitions that have implications on your peace of mind. Please do not exercise soley for the attentions of the opposite sex. Take it from me, someone who has been athletic and athletically built for the majority of my life, someone out there is more fit. Someone has better physical attributes than you everytime, all day and everyday. Your swag cannot rest in your abs or in the cut in your biceps or in your sculpted calf muscles or that perfectly shaped ass of yours. It has to come from within, authentic beauty. I know from experience that I have been in situations with women who were just plain confident and not model material. They had a way about them that was infectous and sexy at the same time. It sparked my imagination on an intimate level and I passed up the chicks who lived in the gym and had the regular appts with the cosmotologist for something real. The Commodores talk about her in "Brickhouse". Remember? They spoke of this all emcompassing black women with curvy hips, thick thighs and volouptous assets that made a man's mouth water and imagination run wild! So dont compromise that women for nothing. Exercise for your health and quality of life. I speak for a multitude of black men who appreciate you being physically fit and keeping it tight, but dont work out for me. NO. Maintain those beautiful God given physiques and workout for you.
ReplyDeleteI work out to get rid of my love handles lol
ReplyDeleteI work out because I have a closet full of clothes that I refuse to give to the March of Dimes. I work-out because I don't sleep well at night and the exercise helps. I work-out because I walk around naked after my shower and I have a floor mirror in my bedroom. I work-out cuz it feels so good. As for stress, try racquet ball. Believe me it works wonders. And your hair. LOL. Get over it. My hair is natural, too. In the summer I wear it in twists. In the winter, I wear it straight. Get an ion ceramic flat iron and blow dryer and get going.
